GNFAC Takes a Look at the Snow Pack in the Taylor Fork
Check here for the latest avalanche warnings and forecasts from the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center.
The GNFAC is listing the avalanche danger as "considerable" for the Southern Madison, Southern Gallatin and Lionhead ranges for the weekend of January 18.
Inconsistent snowfall in the southern Madison range has created a thick layer of windblown snow on top of faceted snow, which concerns the GNFAC.
Take a look at what they found at 9,000 feet after digging a significant pit. The layers are VERY clear. Caution should be used in the Taylor Fork of the southern Madison Range.
